Recipients of SCS Achievement Awards 2025
Family members,
Tutors, student volunteers,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
A very good morning to all. It is a pleasure to be part of this year’s SCS Achievement Ceremony.
- Since 2009, SCS stepped in to run the “Help the Children and Youth Programme” (or HCYP for short). I am pleased to share that to date, HCYP has supported a total of 3045 students in their academic and extra-curricular pursuits, as well as their emotional well-being. The awards today represent the hard-won achievements of our recipients as they have had to navigate their education amidst their life challenges.
- Today I am happy to share that we have 25 recipients of the Excellence Awards and 8 recipients of the Good Progress awards. One of them is Angel Ng, whose father was a recipient of the SCS Welfare Financial Aid. Under the HYCP, she has been consistent in her progress, excelling in her grades over the last three years. With the dedicated guidance of her tutor, Liew Mei Siang, she has attained an overall aggregate score of 74%!
- Besides graduating at the top of her class in the subjects of Chinese and Element of Business – her teachers have shared that she exemplifies the values of discipline and initiatives, developing skills both in the classroom and in life.
- Muhammad Fakhril Haziq Bin Hairman and Muhammad Fakhri Rafael Bin Hairman are also two students who have shown remarkable growth in academic grades and progress in partnership with their tutor. Toda both of them will be receiving the Good Progress Awards. Haziq has progressed well in PSLE, improving a grade in both Mathematics and Science. This year, he has shown significant improvements in secondary school and was recently offered express G3 track for 2 of his subjects.
- His younger brother, Rafael, is in primary 6 this year, and has been commended by his tutor, Adeline, for his proactiveness, diligence in learning and curiosity. The brothers have been in the programme for three years, and their father has shared how they have benefitted tremendously from their tutor Adeline’s guidance all these years. This year their younger sister joins our programme, and we can’t wait to see the enormous growth she will demonstrate.
Another two students whom I believe highlight the long-term impact of the HCYP are graduates of the programme who have gone on to do well in their tertiary education. Ardini Shakilah Binte Zainal is now in second year of her National ITE Certificate in Mechatronics and Robotics course, who will receive the Excellence award for a GPA of 4.0. - Her younger brother, Muhammad Andrian Shah Bin Zainal, is a recipient of the Good Progress award for grade improvements. He has since graduated to ITE and studying aerospace, a course that he enjoys enjoys and is passionate about. Their younger brother has also joined the tuition programme this year. We would like to say a special thanks to tutors Tan Tee Meng Joseph and Chew Eng Meng who have journeyed with Ardini Shakilah and Muhammad Adrain through their secondary school years.
- Beyond the examples that I’ve mentioned that exemplify the spirit of excellence and good progress. As the stories demonstrate, education is not just about filing minds, but about lighting fires — fires of curiosity, perseverance, and growth. I truly believe that each one of you who is receiving the awards today, along with your families and tutors, have chosen to nurture that fire by committing to learning and growing.
In line with the commitment towards holistic growth and execellence, the HCYP has expanded to include non-academic avenues of learning, such as through the arts. In 2024, we started working with The Rice Company Limited, which offers arts programmes including dance, music , theatre, visual arts and tech and arts. We are also delighted to be hosting today’s awards ceremony in their lovely space. The HCYP will continue to identify relevant areas of support for children and parents impacted by cancer. - Finally, we hope that this awards ceremony will encourage you towards becoming the best version of yourselves. As you receive these awards, let them be a reminder not only of your achievements but of the courage it takes to keep striving, growing, and overcoming obstacles. Congratulations to all of you — may you continue to shine brightly and inspire others on your journey.
- Thank you and have a memorable award ceremony!
