WELCOME SPEECH BY SINGAPORE CANCER SOCIETY (SCS) CHAIRMAN, MR LEE 

MENG TAT, AT THE SCS ASPIRATION AWARDS, 8 DEC 2024, 5.10pm, ZOUK. 

Ladies and Gentlemen, Honoured Guests, Donors, Volunteers, and Friends,

Good afternoon, and thank you for joining Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) for this special occasion.

This year marks a momentous milestone—Singapore Cancer Society’s 60th anniversary. Sixty years of dedication, innovation, and impact. Sixty years of touching lives and transforming communities. 

This journey would not have been possible without the generosity of individuals and 

corporate partners like yourselves, whose contributions have enabled us to serve more and serve better. Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to expand our programmes, reach underserved communities, and fulfil our mission to minimise cancer and maximise lives. 

While the main festivities will take place shortly at Level 1, I am excited to celebrate 

something equally meaningful with you now—the spirit of giving. Today, SCS is 

introducing the Aspiration Awards, a recognition programme honouring the generosity, compassion, and dedication of our donors, volunteers, and partners. Today, we celebrate YOU—our champions and award winners. This programme recognises excellence in giving. You make a difference, and that difference 

is what we celebrate today. In designing the Aspiration Awards, SCS developed a set of criteria to reflect the spirit of generosity, dedication, and impact that defines our community of supporters.

Our inaugural batch of awardees was selected as exemplary models of holistic giving – spanning financial support, volunteerism, advocacy and participation in SCS programme and activities. Their contributions empower us to reach further and make an even greater impact in the fight against cancer. 

Beyond recognition, the Aspiration Awards programme is a call to action. We hope to inspire a growing community of like-minded individuals and partners to start giving and those already on this journey to go the mile. True philanthropy goes beyond monetary contributions—it is also about investing time, effort, and passion to create lasting impact.

Today marks the start of something truly special. I hope the inaugural Aspiration Awards inspire us to encourage others to join our journey, creating a ripple effect that pays it forward and transforms lives and communities for the better.

In closing, thank you to everyone here — our awardees and supporters — for being part of this meaningful occasion. Over the past six decades, the Singapore Cancer Society’s impact has been measured not by numbers but by the lives we’ve touched together. Our mission remains as vital as ever, and with your continued support, we will keep making a difference where it matters most.
